Most of us remember the ‘knock-knock’ jokes from grade school. More modern cartoons like the Simpsons, Sponge Bob and others have brought them forward and use them regularly. They go something like this:

Most of us remember replying to ‘Who’s there’ with just about anything, and we usually did. This time, the stars may be lining up and the joke could easily be on us.

Many of us have felt the sense of something approaching on the horizon without being able to specifically put our psychic fingers on the pulse, so to speak. Expect emotional outbursts combined with aggressive behavior. When Mars resumes its forward motion in the middle of April, the aggressive types of behavior should subside somewhat.

February 7 through April 13, Saturn will be in retrograde. Globally, individuals and nations will be faced with a dose of reality and will be facing what they can and cannot do. These are major lessons that will help put things in perspective.

Difficult times are ahead between March 12th and April 4th with Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Neptune all in retrograde at the same time. Expect agitation, emotional flares and communication trouble. This could be one of the most tumultuous periods we have seen in a very long time.

The retrograde energies of Mercury, Mars and Saturn will be magnified and reinforced by each other from March 12th through April 4th. I believe we can expect a possible international conflict as the result of a missed message, impulsive action driven by a desire to enforce our will on a situation that, in truth, cannot be forced or allowing a deep-seeded anger to explode. While the financial crises worldwide deepening could be a possibility, it is an armed conflict that seems the most probable during this time.

This lineup may well affect at least one prominent government official as they encounter some limitations they had not previously counted on. This ‘official’ could well be in the financial sector. This is going to get interesting.

The Second Quarter is going to ramp up the intensity. The week before the Vernal Equinox arrives is marked by the previously mentioned Mercury Retrograde which began on March 12th. Ironically, Daylight savings began the previous day (March 11th). So it appears that the intersection of the change of seasons, change of time, and communications chaos could lead to some dramatic international events.

Radical politics (and politicians) are going to confound everyone and the chance of an “oopsie” resulting in a firefight (actual or metaphorical) continues until the Messenger moves forward again on April 4th.

Then, on April 10, while still in the sign of Capricorn, Pluto goes into retrograde. This is going to put more stress out there than normal. Weakness will be evident with Pluto’s retrograde while Capricorn will be dealing with hierarchies and power during this time.

Expect more revelations about how hollow the current system is that could cause a major crisis involving a government official sometime between April 10th and the 19th. This scandal/issue could lead to a conflict either of arms or of money. Either one will leave us shaken and looking for answers.

The Goddess of Love, Venus, is particularly impacted during this quarter. She squares Neptune, Mars, Chiron, and then goes retrograde on May 15th. Relationships are going to be particularly stressed and emotional conflict (heightened by the transformative and destructive powers of the Dark Lord) could lead to collapse of personal relationships, even as the governmental ones also fall.

The total lunar eclipse of June 4th will occur in Sagittarius. The Archer’s influence will add to the frustration and discontent. The possible fall of a prominent person, either through scandal or some physical calamity, will add to the chaos of the landscape. Italy, North Africa, and yes, us too, are likely spots. The chance for unpredictable weather could also make the run-up to summer a challenge.

Once again, Neptune will go into retrograde. This will be heightened in a negative way due to the fact that the Lunar eclipse happens on the same day. Anything to do with water or liquids such as gas, may indeed be impacted. It would not be a far stretch to say that a severe hurricane, oil or gas leak could take place.

The third Quarter of 2012 will make the first part of the year seem like a picnic. The highlight is an astrological double whammy which starts near the end of the 2nd Quarter. The Sky God, Uranus and Mercury The Messenger both go retrograde a day apart; July 13th and 14th respectively.

This Mercury Retrograde is going to be especially troublesome in that not only will communications suffer, as usual, but ghosts from past and infamous behavior, for those in power, as well as, the rest of us, are going to rise from the collective grave of memory to totally distort our reality.

Expect scandals, revelations and “gotcha” moments turning the already circus atmosphere of the upcoming elections in a spectacle that Ringling Brothers would be proud of. Uranus’ penchant for the unpredictable will be on full display and the month of August may well find us lurching from one disaster to another. The environment, too, is going to take a hit and Labor Day may end up marking more than just the end of Summer.

Some balance will be restored as Pluto, the Dark Lord and Mercury the Messenger ease up tensions by going direct once again. As they begin to chug forward, Pluto will still be in the sun sign Capricorn tearing down the old ways that are no longer serving us. We may begin to see a little more clearly during this time frame.

On April 18th, at 12:06 a.m., EDT, an astrological occurrence that happens three to four times a year and brings with it a variety of challenges and issues, manifested itself. I am speaking, of course, of the infamous Mercury Retrograde. This is the second of three such retrogrades that occur during 2011. The effects that a Mercury Retrograde can have on both personal and societal levels can be profound. Given the unstable nature of the world as a whole, it is important to understand the impact and possible consequences of this time.

When a planet goes into what we call ‘retrograde’, it has the appearance of going backward in the sky. While it does not actually go into a backward motion, it does look that way from our perspective here on the Earth. Mercury is the ruler of short distance travel and communications. These are the two most important areas of your life for you to be aware of during these periods.

Mercury can cause people, relationships and jobs to resurface in our lives. For example, if you have a long-lost love and you re-connect during a Mercury Retrograde, you have the planet’s blessing. However, if you are involved in a relationship that is not working, this is a good time to bring it to a close for good. The same goes of a job that you are not happy with, for now would be the time to end it.

All kinds of things can go haywire in the communications area. For example, you need to be very clear about how you say things so that you are not mis-understood. It is important during a Mercury Retrograde to be conscious of your relationships both on the personal level and in the workplace. Things can get out of hand rather quickly and tempers can easily flare; mostly because of mis-communications gone haywire. Take a deep breath because it won’t last forever.

Governments and nations alike have similar difficulties when communicating with each other. This can cause misunderstandings in our own Congress. The same thing can easily happen between nations and heads of state in other countries. Conflict is usually the result.

This can be a thought-provoking period. A Retrograde involving Mercury, fortunately, does not last but only 3-4 weeks each time it occurs. You will endure it. Just be vigilant and things will soon right themselves.
